Jamie Askari, whose child has ITP, on why quality of life matters as much as platelet levels in choosing a treatment.
Transcript
Well I think the quality of life is probably one of the most important things outside of medications and treatments.
I mean we always have to be talking about quality of life, because there’s a delicate balance between finding medication that works maybe for platelet levels, but it might have such terrible side effects that it doesn’t really work for the patient and their lifestyle.
My son was a teenager when he was diagnosed with ITP, and the steroids were difficult, so we were able to to find other treatments that worked better for him with less side effects. So I think it’s really important to always be flexible when it comes to to that kind of thing.
