Really important not to undermine a patient’s independence, whether they’re, you know, 5 years old, 16 years old, or 50. You know, at any age.
I think it’s incredibly important to let the patient speak first, ask their questions, address their concerns with their physician, their specialists, and then as a care partner, caretaker, caregiver. We come in second with our concerns, with our issues, but I think it’s incredibly important that the patient advocates for themselves as much as they can. You know, again, if they’re a child, they might not always be able to vocalize or speak to their issues. But I do think it’s really important to give them their independence and let them speak first.
