Celebrities and advocacy groups are teaming up to raise awareness of bleeding disorders with a three-hour livestream celebrating the community.

The March 28 event, “Bleeding.org LIVE!”, will be available for free on bleeding.org, the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation (NBDF) website. NBDF is hosting the event in partnership with Talk About It, an organization that aims to raise awareness and engagement around important causes and health concerns.

The event is being held in honor of Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month, which is observed in the U.S. each March.

“Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month has always been about making sure no one in this community felt invisible,” Philip Gattone, president and CEO of the NBDF, said in a foundation press release. “Bleeding.org LIVE! takes that mission to a whole new level.”

Gattone will host the livestream alongside actor Greg Grunberg, co-founder of Talk About It.

“I’ve spent years sitting across from people and asking them to talk about the things that matter most — their health, their families, the stuff that’s hard to say out loud,” Grunberg said. “The bleeding disorders community has never seen a night like this. A night where Hollywood shows up, the music is live, and the whole country is watching. That’s what March 28 is. And it’s long overdue.”

The livestream will feature appearances from several well-known actors, including Jennifer Garner of 13 Going on 30 and Alias, Alex Borstein of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Family Guy, and Bobby Moynihan of Saturday Night Live. Musical performances will include a live performance by Grunberg’s celebrity cover band The Action Figures.

The evening will also feature premieres of content for the NBDF’s advocacy program Educate to Elevate, as well as a sneak peek of Poster Child, a documentary co-produced by Grunberg with support from the NBDF. The film chronicles the story of Ryan White, a boy with hemophilia who became infected with HIV in the 1980s after receiving a contaminated treatment as a teenager. He became a symbol for the HIV/AIDS movement when his school tried to stop him from attending class following his diagnosis.

The livestream will also feature personal stories from people in the bleeding disorder community. A segment will be dedicated to women and girls with bleeding disorders, who are often underdiagnosed and underrecognized, despite experiencing unique challenges such as heavy menstrual bleeding.

“We’re celebrating our people, amplifying voices that need to be heard, especially women and girls who are too often underdiagnosed,” Gattone said. “Our live event will give everyone a real way to take action and shape the future of their care.”
